RE: black tank flush leak - okanagan

DJ is exactly right about this. I had the same leak recently and wasn't sure where it was coming from. When I was out visiting the Hallmark factory in CO the guys their helped me track it down and got me all fixed up.The people working at Hallmark are great! In my 116 it's to the right of the cabinet where the fireplace is or would go. Luckily I don't have the fireplace or it could have been a real pain to get too. I wonder if it's a 2007 thing?

RE: Final Feedback: Lance 1181 or Host Everest

I agree with some others. Two different campers. For me the Host would be off the list because of the bed and kitchen counter space. How could they make such a big camper and have absolutly no counter space.I would lean towards the Lance. The Host is a good looking camper but when your out there using it functionality is much more important. Good luck on your choice!!

RE: Tires for 19.5's (Dually)

Thanks PJ. I love our camper and set up it suits our needs very well.
I had 225 70R 19.5 Generals which I think is the same as Continentals. They were good tires but not good enough with my weight. I did do a lot of research on the tires before I went with XDS2's . There are many great brands out there. I bought them at Costco and they did the install as well. They did a good job and the truck drives great. I had them done in Kalispell,MT. Dan at Rickson is very knowledgeable and helpful If I were closer to Rickson's I would have definitely had them do it. The engine is the 6.0 PSD.
I'm glad you liked my website and images. Thank you. I do go through your area from time to time. Right now I am about as busy I can possibly handle. So my free time is limited. If you want you can PM me in the future. I hope some of this helps.

RE: Tires for 19.5's (Dually)

I just put on six Michelin XDS2 245/70 19.5 16 ply or load range H. I've only had them about four days and around 300 miles. So I couldn't say how long they will hold up or anything. I will say I read about some people having trouble with them breaking in and some not. I've found them to be perfect so far, if they only improve from this point it would just be a bonus. I went with them since they are suppose to be great in snow, ice, rain, and dirt which I seem to be pretty good at getting into.

RE: Okanagan Truck Campers to Cease Production

It seems they are doing it the right way. I know they will take care of their warranties. That's one of the main reasons I purchased an Okanagan and of course quality. I'm sure this won't be the last we hear of them. They are a very smart company and I know they will be back when the time is right. Good job Okanagan for taking care of everyone with campers and letting customers know including the employees with so much notice. I wish everyone there nothing but the best. Sounds like the perfect time to get a great deal on a new Okanagan unit!!

RE: DSI water heater on or off?

Thanks everyone. It sounds like I was just worrying about nothing. I always learn things the hard way so I was trying to prevent it from happening again with this. Looks like we'll be leaving it on when plugged in even for those extended stays. Thanks again for the advice.

RE: DSI water heater on or off?

Thanks for the relpys so far. I'm not really worried about cost of running it on electric since we paid for wherever we are at. I am wondering what is better for the water heater if we are plugged in for a month leave it on thirty days straight or turn it off and on as needed. I guess the real question is what puts more wear and tear on the unit turning it off and on or just leaving it on for a month?
Thanks Fred we love the new the new solar panels, what a difference in comfort it's making for us!AM Solar in Eugene,Oregon did the work and could not have done a better job! I Highly recommend them. Wish we did it a long time ago.

DSI water heater on or off?

We started full-time RVing about 16 months ago and love it very much!! Wondering about our water heater it's propane and electric. When we're plugged in it's nice to just leave it on the whole time but this past winter we actually stayed put for a couple of months and was wondering what is better for the water heater leaving it on constantly when plugged in or just turn it on when needed and then shut it off. I just want to get the longest life out of it possible. So what do the more experienced one's think? Thanks in advance for the input.

RE: Carry an extra water pump?

It's funny you mention this when just two days ago I decided to pick up an extra pump. One time years ago I was getting ready to take off on a trip in our old Northstar and I found out about ten minutes before I left the pump wasn't working. I ended up having to leave a day later after finally finding a pump. I agree you can't have extra parts for everything but having no water suddenly could really ruin a trip. Most things you can do maintenance on and feel good about but I'm not sure how to tell if a pump is about to fail. I figure for the size and weight of an extra pump it's some extra piece of mind. I always have tools with me since I full/time. The fuel to have to try and find a pump somewhere with the prices today could cost more than the pump itself. It seems like cheap insurance to me. Mine cost about $65.00 at camping world.

RE: TC'ers and Music

I haven't with my newer camper but I use to with my Northstar and it was a lot of fun! It's so nice to have all your drinks and food with you not too mention a bathroom. Plus the food is better and you save some money in the process. I hope to make it to some concerts and or festivals this summer. I think a TC is a great way to go. I also play harmonica and have for 13 years and it's always a good time with some other musicians at the shows.

RE: changing water heater to 110 volt?

I've really used the electric option. Of course it's only good when your hooked up but it's nice to flip that switch and know it's not costing anything extra for propane. Then leave it on all day and night. Also great if your in freezing weather which could use a fair amount of propane trying to keep the water heater from freezing but with the electric nothing. With the cost of some of these RV parks, I figure use what I can I paid for it. Not too mention the cost of propane.

RE: Silver Creek Falls Rally II

We work most weekends but if it starts on a weekday or if by chance we end up having that weekend available we would love to be there. For those of you have never been, it's a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The photo is one I took about 5 years ago.

Beware depending on what the weight of your camper is adding a utility body is around 1300lbs. and don't forget there's no reason to have it built if you can't put stuff in it due to weight. The standard F450 not the cab and chassis doesn't have much more payload than a F350 so be careful.

RE: Okanagan going aluminum?

I do know that aluminum framed campers are most of the time lighter. I owned a wood framed Northstar before my Okanagan I have now and I used it a lot approximately 125,000 miles on the back of my Tundra and it never had any issue with anything other than a water pump I left on. Anyway I bought a F550 so I could by a wood framed camper and not worry about weight, because I know they work for me and my style of camping. I don't claim to be an expert but I have spoke to a couple who are and they have said they would buy an aluminum framed camper if they spent most of their time in a dry climate like the southwest area. They also said if they were to spend more time in say the northwest they would buy a wood frame since the wood won't sweat like aluminum. Who really knows for an absolute fact which is better but I'm very happy with my choice because I do spend a lot of time in some crazy weather and weight isn't an issue. I really don't think Okanagan is going to switch. They have Okanagan for the people who want wood and Eagle Cap for those who don't. From a buisness stand point it just makes sense.

RE: TC Photo calendar- Nik's photo

I think the reason not all manufactures are represented is because the public did the voting. I was very pleased to have my camper photo in the snow for the December page and was very surprised when another of mine was chosen for the cover!!! I hope Gordon and Angela of Truck Camper Magazine make a few bucks off the calendars. They sure do a lot of work out there with lots of great information for all of us. I hope lots of people order calendars to thank them for all their hard work. I plan on ordering several and giving them to friends and family. The two pics chosen are the two on the left in my signature. So another one our own in the calendar. I wonder who else?
